TAMPA - Hunting for a rental house to live in has left Amy McGinnis broke, monetarily and mentally.
Her six-week search around the Tampa Bay area left her competing for rentals, paying multiple rental application fees and also opening up her wallet to pay for background checks.
The 27-year-old spent hundreds of dollars only to be told her application was denied, the landlord chose a different prospective tenant or the property was already rented.
"I put applications in at maybe four or five places," explained McGinnis. "I probably spent around a $100 on random applications. I was denied at four different places."
